How to Hide Photos and Videos on Android

Every photo and video that users take using the phone's camera, will be directly stored in the photo gallery. Likewise when downloading images and videos from the internet.

Sometimes from the collection of photos and videos in the gallery there is some "secret" content, either because it is private or contains sensitive information, so that others do not want to be seen.

How to hide photos and videos on Samsung phones

Users of Samsung devices with Android OS 7.0 or later can use the "Secure Folder" feature to hide photos or videos."

Based on our experience using a Samsung Galaxy running Android 11 OS, the method is as follows:

  • Go to the Settings menu > Biometrics and security > Secure Folder. If you don't want to be complicated, users can immediately search for "Secure Folder" in the Settings search field.
  • When first accessing Secure Folder, users are prompted to log in to their Samsung account.
  • After that, users can choose the locking method they want to use, whether using a PIN, pattern, password, or fingerprint.
  • Users also need to set the "Secure Folder" locking automation to the "each time I leave an app" option. By selecting this option, the "Secure Folder" will be automatically locked when the user exits the "Secure Folder" application.
  • To move photos or videos to the "Secure Folder", users just open the photo or video in the gallery. Then, click the vertical three dots in the lower right corner of the screen > "move to secure folder".

The photo or video will be automatically hidden in the password protected Secure Folder.

"Secure Folder" can be directly accessed through the app drawer on the phone. Users need to enter the selected password each time they want to access the "Secure Folder".
