Google Asks Users to Update Chrome to Latest Version

Google warns all Chrome users to update their browsers to the latest versions with emergency security. This is because hackers have exploited a new zero-day vulnerability with a high threat level.

In announcing the Chrome update on its official website, Google confirmed Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux is vulnerable to a new Zero-day hack or CVE-2022-1096 exploit in an inappropriate way.

Quoted from Forbes, Zero-day is the most dangerous form of attack because the vulnerability is known by hackers before Google can issue a fix.

For information, CVE-2022-1096 is type confusion or random writing in V8. This refers to the JavaScript engine used by Chrome. Google did not disclose the technical details and explanation that the update is capable of protecting the vast majority of Chrome's current 3.2 billion users.

The technology company from the United States (US) only advises all Chrome users to update their browsers immediately. An emergency update to Chrome version 99.0.4844.84 that focuses on only one security vulnerability is very unusual. This fact emphasizes how serious the problem is.

How to apply additional Google Chrome security is as follows:

Open the Help|About option in your Google Chrome menu.
If an update is available, the menu will start downloading automatically.
Use the restart menu or restart the browser after the update is installed.
If you don't reboot, the latest version of the browser will not activate and you will remain vulnerable to attacks.
